Residential Homes for hurting children
SPLASH – Spirit – Powered – Love – Aggressively – Shaping – Hearts
GAP has eleven residential family-style homes where we provide 24-hour care to children 0-18 years of age who are placed with us through Child Protective Services (CPS). It is our mission to shelter children who have been abused and neglected and to show them love and acceptance. We believe there is a mandate that requires us to defend the causes of the orphan, the widow, the hungry and naked, providing hope and healing. We are licensed through the state of Arizona to house up to 104 children, and we care for approximately 200 individual children each year, with teens making up about 50%.
SPLASH Houses are staffed with full-time house parents who have a desire to share God’s unconditional love with the children in our care. The positive changes that these children experience have been noticed by caseworkers, judges and therapists. The establishment of a healthy family model serves in restoring the value of family and appropriate interaction between children and family members. The unconditional love that is given by each parent and staff member is vital to the healing process that each child walks through.
SPLASH Houses were begun because GAP Ministries believes it is God’s desire that we impact children in many different aspects. His word says to “Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.” (KJV) It is not good enough to just to put a Band-Aid on the foster children (today’s orphans) around us. We must find ways to reach them in all aspects of their lives. Social and Safety issues, educational issues, mental health issues, and spiritual issues all need to be addressed or we will be guilty of neglecting these children. Abuse and neglect have devastated their lives so without ministering to the whole child we fall short of God’s directives.
