Meeting the Growing Need for Summer Meals

During the summer months, the need for meals in our community increases dramatically.

When school is out, many children lose access to the breakfasts, lunches, and snacks they rely on throughout the school year. To help fill that gap, the GAP Kitchen more than doubles its meal production during the summer months, ensuring that children, families, and individuals continue to have access to nutritious food.

Each week, the GAP Kitchen prepares and distributes more than 2,800 meals and snacks through summer feeding programs, community partners, mobile meal deliveries, daycare centers, and other outreach efforts. With additional summer feeding sites being added, that number continues to grow.

Every meal represents more than nourishment. It is an opportunity to provide stability, encouragement, and hope to someone facing difficult circumstances. Through these programs, thousands of children and adults receive the support they need during a season when food insecurity often increases.

However, meeting this growing need requires community support. Summer is traditionally a time when donations decline, even as demand for food rises significantly.

The Summer Heat Wave campaign helps ensure that meals continue reaching at-risk children and adults throughout the months when the need is greatest. By supporting this campaign, you help provide food, care, and hope to individuals and families across our community.

Together, we can make sure no child or family has to face hunger alone this summer.
