About Us
“Don’t tell me you can’t do it. I slept under a bridge for 2 years.”
Jennifer McPheron
Jennifer McPheron is a strong business leader and a benefit to anyone trying to make changes in their lives. Her desire to help people is rooted in her own difficult upbringing. Jennifer grew up as 1 of 6 children being raised by addicted parents. Even though she promised herself she would never grow up to be like them, she eventually continued the cycle of addiction in her family. By the time she was 24 years old, she was homeless and in an abusive relationship. Her two small children were removed to foster care due to her addiction. She spiraled into desperation and hopelessness. She was addicted to meth and living in the desert.
Miracle Center is where the love of God was demonstrated to Jennifer and once she experienced it she became responsive. She knew that she wanted a relationship with God and that relationship would change her life. Through much work and diligence, Jennifer went from resident to houJennifer McPheron is a strong business leader and a benefit to anyone trying to make changes in their lives. Her desire to help people is rooted in her own difficultse staff, from house staff to Assistant Director, and from Assistant Director to Program Director. Every step of the way she gave glory to God and worked to help the women that God placed in her life understand that they could live in the same freedom that she discovered.
Besides her work at Miracle Center over the past 16 years, Jennifer has been on multiple Boards for local nonprofits, served in pastoral care, started and overseen recovery meetings, visited and taught classes at rehabilitation centers, and is the co-owner of TrueCore Cleaning with her husband Matthew. Jennifer is a true servant leader and believes that when people encounter the love of God anything is possible. This is one of the primary reasons that the couple acquired TrueCore Cleaning. Jennifer wanted people to encounter the love of God in the for-profit sector.
After years of running a successful business, Jennifer is excited for Miracle Center to be expanding and partnering with GAP Ministries. She looks forward to coming alongside the career development programs and imparting her experience to the men and women in these life-changing programs.
Matthew McPheron
Besides being Co-Director of the new Miracle Center, Matthew is also a successful business owner and a man driven to create change in the community. This drive was birthed by personal struggle.
When Matthew was just 6 years old, his mother abandoned the family. Over the years, he came to believe that he was meant to be rejected. This ultimately lead to a lifestyle of addiction which ended in homelessness, living under a local bridge, with a daily heroin and cocaine habit of $250.
Matthew continued this lifestyle for 5 years, in and out of detox almost weekly.
But one day, God miraculously intervened when he answered Matthew’s prayer. That day, suffering from withdrawals, Matthew prayed to the God he had known as a child and told Him that if He really cared, He would give Matthew enough money to buy the drugs he needed just not to be sick. That very day he picked up in a fake $10 bill he saw on the ground. Wrapped in it was the book of Proverbs torn out of a Bible. He took the book of Proverbs back under his bridge and read it by candlelight. That night God revealed Himself to Matthew and said that He would never abandon or reject him. The next morning Matthew went to detox for the last time.
Over the past 15 years, Matthew has worked hard to improve his life and the lives of those around him. He has led recovery meetings, had a radio show, been a director of an in-treatment drug and alcohol recovery center, and pastored churches. He truly believes that with God all things are possible, and anyone can become successful, no matter what their starting point.
On the day of his 10-year sobriety anniversary, Matthew and his wife Jennifer acquired TrueCore Cleaning because they wanted to provide a stepping stone for the people they were helping in recovery. They wanted to give men and women a way to change their lives and become successful by giving them an opportunity to work. TrueCore Cleaning has created many jobs and in five years has grown from 6 employees to 25 employees. TrueCore Cleaning is a successful construction cleaning company that grosses $1,000,000.00 annually and has given Matthew and Jennifer the opportunity to better understand all aspects of owning and running a business. This entrepreneurial experience, along with Matthew’s personal life journey, will be a benefit as he and Jennifer walk alongside students of GAP Ministries’ Career Training programs to help them navigate a bright future for their own lives.
History
Betty Smith founded Miracle Center in 1999. While working with the homeless population at a local shelter, Betty realized that the care provided was not individual specific, but designed for huge numbers of people to go through. She believed that while mass care was compassionate, it was not the solution to the problem. Betty wanted to develop a comprehensive program that unified the clinical and spiritual approach, while rooted in intimacy, and Miracle Center was born.
Our first women’s house opened its doors in 2001, ever since our residents have been led through a highly flexible, individualized process of evaluating themselves, their relationships with others, and their relationship with God. This enables them to establish goals based on their discoveries and their God-given talents.
Make Miracles Happen!
Miracle Center is 100% privately funded by individuals like you.
