Hope Runs Deep

Refreshment to our oasis in the desert

As Arizona Foster Care has shifted in the last several years, the kids who are placed in group homes are often those who have been through the worst of the worst—victims of severe abuse and neglect, some born exposed to drugs or alcohol, many who have spent their entire lives in the child welfare system. They are children who struggle to trust, to connect, to simply be kids. And because they have been so hurt, the place they call home needs to be a special place of healing.

This is why two of our four family style group homes are tucked away on a large, quiet property—a Healing Hub intentionally designed to give them space to breathe and rebuild their lives. Over the last two decades, this 10-acre property has grown into a safe haven—with a sports court where kids learn to play as a team, a pool where they take their first swim lessons, an environment where no one looks at them like they are broken.

But right now, even this safe haven is under strain.
The well that has supplied water to the homes has failed. Every day, our staff are hauling in water just so the kids can drink, shower, and eat.
For children who have already lost so much, the last thing they should worry about is whether they can turn on the faucet for a glass of water or take a shower after school.

Fixing the well is urgent—but it’s also an opportunity. A new well will not only restore safe, reliable water, it will also allow us to build a small garden on the property. Here, children can nurture life, grow food, and heal through therapeutic, hands-on activities.

Items 1-7 are currently on the Healing Hub campus. Items 8, 9, and 10 will be added/upgraded with your Hope Runs Deep contributions.

In over 25 years at just these 2 houses, GAP has cared for 1400 children and teens. SPLASH 1 has been open since 1999, but we’ve only had SPLASH 11 since 2011. In the next 25 years, these two houses will easily provide care for another 2000 children. In total, the SPLASH* Foster Care program has served over 4,400 children since 1999 at all our houses. Children at all of our SPLASH homes will benefit for years to come from this capital campaign.
